Happening now

No country has a large national internet outage right now. WARNPOINT checks every 10 minutes.

How WARNPOINT detects an outage

The data comes from IODA, the Internet Outage Detection and Analysis project at Georgia Tech. WARNPOINT lists a country only when the outage is still going on, is large (at least 10% of its routed networks or 20% of its reachable networks offline), and the country is big enough to measure reliably. Google-traffic dips alone are not enough, because weekends and holidays cause them too. WARNPOINT reports the measurement and never guesses the cause. Shutdowns are often ordered during protests, exams or elections; others come from power cuts, cable damage or attacks on infrastructure.

Why it matters

A country going dark is often the first sign of a coup, a crackdown, a major strike on infrastructure or a nationwide power failure, sometimes before the news reports it. Open any country on the live map to see its connectivity next to the latest conflict reporting, official statements and travel advisories.
